Martin/St. Lucie Waterways Plan
The report was accepted in final form by the Martin MPO, St. Lucie TPO, and Florida Inland Navigational District in December 2014.
ROLE & PROGRAM:
This project involves the development of a plan and strategies to leverage economic benefits related to the waterways in Martin and St. Lucie Counties, including the Intracoastal Waterway, St. Lucie River (north and south forks), and St. Lucie Canal.
The plan evaluates land development opportunities, water-based transportation, and measures to improve efficiency, access to the waterways, recreational opportunities, and marine-related benefits.
The Waterways Plan for Martin and St. Lucie counties was funded by the Martin Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), St. Lucie Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), and Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND). Development of the Plan benefitted from the broad direction, oversight, and encouragement of the following members of the Project Steering Committee.
This Plan benefitted from consultants W. Thomas Lavash of WTL+a, and Tom Moriarity of Retail and Development Strategies LLC contributions to the economic development sections; and Michael Williamson, Cambridge Systematics, Inc., contribution to the marine transportation section. Also, the public educational forums were a great source of information.
The primary contributors to this Plan were Kimberly DeLaney, Strategic Development Coordinator, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council (TCRPC) with assistance from Peter G. Merritt, Assistant Director, TCRPC; and Greg Vaday, Economic Development Coordinator, TCRPC; Beth Beltran, MPO Administrator, Martin MPO with assistance from Bonnie Landry, Senior Planner, Martin MPO; and Peter Buchwald, Executive Director, St. Lucie TPO with assistance from Marcia Lathou, Transit Program Manager, St. Lucie TPO.
