What is a Charrette?

Charrette means "cart" in French.

Various architectural school legends hold that at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 19th Century Paris, a small cart would go around town collecting students’ work to take it back to the school to be juried by the master architect. Of course students always had last minute changes and fine tuning they wanted to do to their drawings, so they would jump on the cart with their projects, and continue working intensely until the cart arrived at the Ecole.

Today, the term is used to describe a high speed, intense creative session in which a team concentrates on specific design problems with citizens and presents solutions.
